Chapter Five

Summer closed the cabin door behind her, and took a deep breath. She was nervous as a virgin, but her body thrummed with need. Barrett switched on a bedside lamp, and she looked around the cabin. It held a bed, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. One of her mother’s homemade patchwork quilts covered the bed, while matching curtains hung at the two small windows. A small door just off the right wall led to an en suite bathroom. The employees of the ranch all ate up at the ranch house, so they didn’t need their own kitchens, but there was a small communal kitchen-diner in the end cabin of the L-shaped block for those wanting a late night snack or coffee.

“Summer… Are you sure about this?” Barrett kicked off his boots and socks, then walked toward her and took her hands.
